“I’d never painted at this size before but I figured if I’m going to try to cram in 13 characters into one cover it might be a good time to start. I discovered that I was able to squeeze in a lot of detail that was still visible when reduced to comic book size, so it became my new favorite format to paint at, especially as I become more and more far-sighted the older I get.
The problem was trying to move the canvas from my studio to anywhere else, and bigger canvases are getting more and more difficult to sell as living spaces get smaller, but that’s a bridge I’ll just have to cross when I get to it. For now it’s still one of my favorite things I ever done.”
