“This project was a dream come true, painting Optimus Prime. But like many dream projects it came with a caveat, which was having to draw him with Megatron’s cannon arm, which was not the Optimus Prime “I grew up with.” But I quickly got over it and wanted to really lean into the contrast in the fusion of Autobot and Decepticon, creating different anatomical languages for the two, including claws on Megatron which Hasbro didn’t like and had me change, but it’s still on the original art. I may even change the fingers into claws whenever I sign or remarque one of these.”
