X-23: Deadly Regenesis Unused Cover Lineart
Graphite on Bristol 300lb paper
11”x 17”
This is the original line art for a cover to X-23: Deadly Regenesis that was ultimately unused. There were about a dozen of these done before one was selected for the final cover. This is one of the unused ones.
This one is supposed to be a call back to Frank Miller’s iconic Wolverine cover. The initial pitch of the Deadly Regenesis story to me was that it was going to be a return to the Target X era, so idea for this piece that I was trying to convey was that the Wolverine costume Laura had been wearing was shot away by enemies, revealing her X-23 costume that I designed twenty years ago. I don’t know if it quite comes through in the layout, so I had to pitch it with some loose colors. I think the idea was too abstract as it was rejected almost immediately.
